i am new to bicycle. my 1st proper bike was a mountain bike 3700 disc, and was stolen. hence the FX as a replacement. i had this bike for 2 weeks, and commuted everyday on this bike. every other day i would bike around 1 hrs as my cardio time. absolutely in love with this bike: very fast, gears and brakes are light and very smooth. hold up fine on bad Boston road. i would like the bike to be a bit lighter, but at this price range, i cant complain. would love to stay with FX line but upgrade to a lighter bike next season.

Love this bike but if you are looking for something with a higher average speed get a regular road bike. I changed out the grips..was getting numb fingers even on short rides...the seat that comes on the bike is an average size so put on a 154mm ultra lightweight Bontrager. Shimano SPD pedals, Cateye computer...I flipped the stem, changed the tires to Hutchinson Fusion 3 23mm (comes with 32mm). The bike is a good all around bike but for speed you want a regular road bike.

I use the bicycle to get exercise in the evenings. I had a mountain bike I purchased for $129 from the largest store in the world, I won't mention any names. That bicycle did me well until I wanted to start covering more ground and work my legs less. I decided to step up my exercising to a performance bike. I went into the store and test drove cruiser bicycles, bybrids of different kinds, and the road bikes. At first I thought maybe a road bike was best for me.... but I just did not feel "at home" on one as I do not race. I felt very comfortable on the performance hybrid trek 7.3 fx. It felt amazingly light compared to the mountain bike. Coming form cheap bicycles, this is a very impressive bike. I bet if you owned a $5000 bicycle and went to this one you would notice some quality missing.... however this is not the case if you appreciate what you have coming from something worse. I am getting faster and stronger with it every week. Its very fun to ride. I keep it in my room out of the weather. I read all the time people getting theirs stolen. Come on people.. take care of your bike. Lock it with a thick chain. Keep it out of the weather when possible. If your budget is around $700, this is the best choice out there. If you want to complain about its quality then borrow some money from family, take out a loan and buy a more expensive one.

I've had my bike for about a month now. I use to bike everyday back in the 70's - 80's on a road bike. This is my first Hybrid and I must say this is a fantastic bike. After not riding for so long, it took me very little time to get back into it. Man have I been missing out on so much fun and healthy activity. I look forward every evening when I get home from work, taking a spin on this bike. Once I get on it and start peddling, the fun and joy all comes back. The brake pads are a little noisy and can be annoying, but I plan on swapping them out for a better set. I upgraded the front derailleur and upgraded the pedals, other than that, this is a great all around bike. I love it so much, i'm thinking about getting a 7.5 FX for more long distance road riding. this bike is smooth, lightweight and responsive. I orginally was considering the 7.2 FX and upgrading some components, but by the time I spend the money doing what I wanted, I just thought it would be best to get the 7.3 FX. I do not regret it for one second. I'm 60 years old and can honestly say that there is no age limit to this sport. keep peddling and enjoy the many benefits of biking !!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK TREK !!!

I haven't rode a bike in around 6 years. With gas prices high I decided 2 get a bike. I've had this bike for a week now and can't stay off it I ride it everywhere.I'm to the the point of selling my truck and just riding my bike. The only con to this bike is the saddle. Overall the best bike I'd recommend for a anyone wantin a fair priced performance bike

        Comments:

The tires are extremely difficult to fill with air and lose air consistently, the seat is the most uncomfortable one on a bike I have ever owned, the wheels squeak while riding which is irritating and the bike handle grips are always sliding off the handle bars. For the price, I expected much better [...]

I bought this bike in Oct 2010. A little late in the season, but got to use it a fair amount in 2010 including some winter riding. For a Hybrid I like this bike better than a road bike, especially the handlebars.. I don't like the feel of a regular road bike handlebars. I would recommend this bike for a causal and exercise use and it runs well. Bought my bike from Hub City Sports in Hagerstown, MD.

first hybrid ive onwd and i love it. put close to 100 miles on her the first month. rides really smooth and shifts well ... pretty fast bike. only con for me was the drive train. after i rode for a 40 mile journey the next day the chain started to slip (cables were loose) took it TREK and they adjusted the cables brakes and shifters. works like a charm now love it!

My wife got me this bike. Better than riding on a lifecycle. Been riding a couple months about 60 miles a week. Commuting and riverbed rides. Rode behind a guy with fancy cycling clothes and a fancy road bike. Kept pace with him at 22-23 mph. He kept looking back and seemed bothered that a guy in cargo shorts riding a hybrid bike was not falling behind. Hmmm, maybe I'll have to get a road bike and see how fast I can really go.
