Smith Overtake

You leave it all on the road. Your passion, your power, and the shattered wills of your competition. When every pedal stroke counts, every piece of equipment needs to perform. Smith's Overtake helmet is the one you need to put the sting into the peloton. Providing maximum ventilation, untouchable aerodynamics, and racer-pleasing low weight, the Overtake sacrifices nothing in pursuit of your next podium spot. Built with Smith's Aerocore construction, the low-volume Overtake offers effective temperature regulation on even the most grueling climbs and hottest days. Thanks to the honeycomb-shaped Koroyd material, the Overtake features enhanced impact resistance. And, it wouldn't be a Smith helmet without those extra touches to make it stand out from the crowd. The adjustable fit system, ultra-light webbing, and soft lining make for a helmet that's all-day comfortable. You'll also appreciate Smith's eyewear-integration dock that allows riders to securely store their sunglasses while they're not being worn. Don't just chase the competition. Overtake them.

    About Me

    Comments:

I have never written a review for any product from any company, but would not be writing this if not for the overtake helmet. I have been cycling for 30 years, at many different levels. I usually buy a decent helmet, but have never spent much money. 2 weeks ago, my training partner and I hooked handle bars sending him forward and slamming me down on my side. I cheaped out on buying the MIPS version and did have a concussion, but the helmet absorbed al the shock and with numerous broken bones, loss of consciousness for 1 minute and amnesia for 3 hours there was not one mark on my skull. The Doctors were amazed that with the amount of force created when my head hit the payment there was not a serious brain injury. I will ride again, but I will never ride without a smith helmet. The next version will have MIPS! My friend, who was also wearing an overtake, hit his frontal lobe and destroyed his helmet as well, but he never lost consciousness and the helmet stayed in place and absorbed the full impact of his body. One strange day, but this design works perfectly at the only time it must.

Excellent ventilation, superior fit and retention make the Overtake a sure winner.

    Comments:

I've been using this for several months for XC MTB racing and have been very pleased with the performance of the Smith Overtake. At least on my melon, the Overtake is a perfect fit. I had zero problems with ventilation during 90degrees+ races and barely notice it's there. Lastly the retention works as well as anything else I've tried and I've been riding 20+ years. Well done Smith!

Crash Tested (unfortunately) and Rider Approved

    About Me

    Comments:

My Smith Overtake w/MIPS took a direct impact when I crashed today. While I do have a bit of a headache, It definitely protected my head where otherwise I would have had a concussion for sure. At the point of impact, my helmet absorbed and shifted as the MIPS was designed to do. It felt like my head landed on an egg carton. I have crashed with other helmets that don't fit as well and had worse results. If you are concerned for safety then this helmet is for you! Remember an improper fit results in a concussion or even worse.

    If it fits, wear it.

    About Me

    Comments:

Tried on several different helmets to replace an old L.A.S. lid and wasn't getting anywhere fast. I have a classic potato head, oblong rather than round, and smith helmets generally accommodates this shape well. I saw one at the local very large and well known outdoor retail co-op, popped it on while wincing at the price, and was immediately sold on the fit and light weight. The placement and ergonomics of the retention system and straps is excellent and doesn't bind at the back of the neck when riding in the drops. Ventilation is very good, and if you're an attention hound, this helmet will get a lot of questions from your riding partners. In the end, if a helmet disappears while riding, it's doing its job, and this one does just that. Cons? $$$, but as they say, you've only got one head.

    Overtake, more like OverHEAT

    By Tonewood

    About Me

    Comments:

The build quality is good, and the fit is okay. Stylistically, I dig it. However, I've seen a lot of reviews praising the ventilation system, but I've had a very different experience. Very little air gets in. I have the MIPS version, and the plastic/pads block the 3 major import vents in the front, which would otherwise allow at least some air to pass through. I have unlocked the front MIPS connection (thus defeating the MIPS purpose) in order to move the pads in such a way that a small amount of air can get through. While riding even recovery pace, it is uncomfortably hot. Doing intervals, climbs, or racing with it is not tolerable. I do not get the sense that hot air escapes, it feels more like it is trapped. I know it sounds good on paper to claim the Koroyd does this, but it does not. If you put your head down, you can feel a little breeze for a moment, but I prefer to ride with my eyes on the road. A few minor complaints: the buckle sits to the side of my face and not under my chin, and the balance of the helmet overall seems front-heavy. Lastly, the glass docking feature is a nice touch, but not secure enough to my liking. One plus of the poor ventilation is that there is much less wind noise, and it will also be a great chilly weather helmet.

    Comments:

The Overtake helmet is very lite weight, fits prefect no sliding or shifting. The helmet vents allow air to help keep your head cool, you can ride for hours and not have sweat dripping down your face. The stealth look of the helmet helps you look like a real rider and the construction of the helmet guarantees safety. Its nice to have a helmet that fits, is well constructed and looks great.

Light, comfortable, well ventilated + looks awesome. Stoked to train and race in a lid I feel will keep me well protected (thanks to MIPS) all while looking good. I've worn everything from TLD to Giro to Kask and can confidently say this is the best helmet I've ever worn!

    Overtake is over the top!

    By BearMan

    About Me

    Comments:

How awesome is the Overtake? I wore it for my first ride yesterday with our club ride and one of our members who is a bike shop owner took one look at it and said, "I want that helmet...now!" And it didn't disappoint. One ride and I am already a huge fan. I have owned and worn the other top brands, and I have to say, the Overtake is the best. It fits so well and is so light that you really don't even notice it. I did a three hour ride yesterday and the helmet didn't even move on my head. I was a little worried about heat with the density of the Koroyd/Aercore technology but it was not an issue. Really, this is probably the most comfortable road helmet overall that I have ever worn. And the only small downside is that the Smith Approach glasses I bought with the helmet (also fantastic, by the way) don't fit securely in the helmet groves. But all in all, this lid is everything it is cracked up to be. My prediction is that given the functionality and style of this helmet, it is going to take the cycling world by storm.
