2016 Rocky Mountain Altitude 770 MSL

Climbs like a cross country bike, descends like an enduro bike — Rocky Mountain's Altitude 770 MSL takes that well-worn cliche into reality. Built from Smoothwall carbon around Rocky Mountain's Ride-9 adjustable geometry, the Altitude owns every section of trail. Up and down, with the 150mm of remote-controlled SmoothLink rear suspension and a 160mm Fox 34 CTD fork, traction is found everywhere, and every hit from braking bumps to full-compression slammers are handled with expertise. More expertise comes from the rest of the build kit. A 1x11 Shimano XT drivetrain is spun by Race Face cranks and a wide Race Face bar with stubby stem gives you plenty of leverage to wring this rig through techy sections. With the stout 27.5-inch wheels, a proper Maxxis Minion/Ardent tire set up, Reverb dropper post, and renowned XT discs, you'll soon see the cliche can be a reality.

    Comments:

The Altitude 770 MSL replaced my Trek Fuel 8. In comparison the Rocky is taller with a much better bottom bracket clearance. The 650b wheels smooth out the trail and allow better roll-over of obstacles. The dropper seat post and remote shock lock-out are great on the trail but it does make for a cluttered cockpit. Over-all this bike is a hoot to ride and climbs very well. Confidence inspiring on the way down with capabilities way above my riding skills! One small complaint is that the internally run rear shifter cables emerge right on the bottom of the bottom bracket using a custom little cable retainer. In the first week that retainer broke and the bike was unridable until I fabricated a new one. Flip the bike upside down and make sure it is in good shape before heading out to the mountains. I get lots of people stopping me on the trail to ask about the bike. It's a head turner!

Simply put: the best bike I've ever had.

      Comments:

Simply put: the best bike I've ever had it. It rolls amazingly, climbs with easy, very agile, and descends with tons of confidence. Right on my second ride I've done two very technical drops that were in my bucket list for a couple of years. I just didn't have enough confidence with my previous bikes. I traded my Santa Cruz Blur LT (Talas 32 150mm fork) for this bike. One problem with the Blur was the 32 fork that dives and flexes. The Altitude comes with Fox 34 which is awesome. 27.5 rolls way better than 26 and is just as fun to jump, drop, do switchbacks. The straight geometry also proved amazing on climbs. As my buddy and I mentioned, you climb with little effort. Rider 9's shock adjustment is also another great plus as you can customize the suspension for your taste and even to different rides.I've fallen in love with Rocky Mountains while riding an 26 altitude in Whistler's cross country and the Flatline downhill at the bike park. The 650B Altitude is just another excellent bike from these guys. The best of them for me! Besides the technology on it (internal cable routing, 142x12 thru axle, etc..) the bike looks awesome. The carbon frame is beautiful and has big diameters that make it look a very tough bike in a outstanding great looking package. The only change I've done to the bike was swapping the Noby Nics for Hams Danf for better fit with the terrain where I ride. Also made it tubeless. I am in love :-)
